Associate professor Nelli Petrova-Dimitrova, a chairperson of the Association "Social Activities and Practices Institute", conducted a training for the assessment of candidates for foster parents.
On February 17th and 18th social workers from the Regional Centre for Foster Care in Shoumen and the Child Protection Units from the municipalities of Shoumen, Novi Pazar, Venets and Caolinovo discussed and came up with the main principles governing the work on the evaluation of foster parents candidates as one of the main phases of the management of this social service.
The goal of the specialized training module was to increase the knowledge an improve the skills of the specialists in the application of the new methodology in the social work with children and families by providing them with more information about the professional assessment of social work practices. The main tasks of the training were to increase the competency of the social workers to regarding the essence, the type and the purpose of the evaluation in social work and its specification of implementation towards the candidates for foster parents; to increase their professionals skills for the prepration of assessment report for the Child Commission; as well as to develop a disposition for the acceptance of foster parents as colleagues and partners with whom to share the responsibilities and the duties related to the caring for children.
The training was held within the framework of the project "Extension of the Foster Care Model in Bulgaria".
