World Day of Social Work

World Day of Social Work

On March 16, 2021, we celebrate World Social Work Day. This is the day that social workers around the world come together to promote their message worldwide. This year's message is: I am because we are - Strengthening social solidarity and global connectivity. The message comes from the indigenous language of South Africa and was popularized by Nelson Mandela. Ubuntu: "I am because we are" is a word, a concept and a philosophy that resonates with the perspective of social work for the interconnectedness of all people and their environment. This speaks to the need for global solidarity and also emphasizes the importance of local knowledge and wisdom. "
