In 2010 the Social Activities and Practices Institute (SAPI) in partnership with UNICEF, the International Social Service and Association “Samariani” created a Resource Centre on the topic of foster care within the frames of a two-year project .
The Centre continues its activity after the end of the project. The main goal of the Resource Centre is the improvement of the quality of foster care in the country through the provision of the following services:
Information - Gathering, preservation, and distribution of available methodological resources in the country (data, research, publications, materials in help of professionals and citizens).
Research - Periodic analysis of the problems and difficulties in the provision of foster care, and of the positive and negative experiences. Conducting research with the aiml of supporting the development process of this service on a local and national level.
Consultation - Consultation of non-government organizations, providers of foster care, and professionals.
Training – Training of trainers of candidates for foster parents – basic and specialized. The training modules are aimed at professionals that work with foster parents and candidates for foster parents, and organizations that provide foster care. Training of the staff in the protection structures.
Mediation - Mediation and consultation for guidance and training of candidates for foster parents.
Methodological support and supervision – Methodological help provided to social workers and foster parents on the whole territory of the country.
