The aim of the project was to create a youth probation centre (an alternative centre for social prevention) in order to apply non-custodial measures, supervision of cases of imprisonment of juveniles(including placement in correctional establishments), to assist the coordination of administration of youth justice on a municipal level. The project contains the following main components- creation of youth probation centres in four towns- Bourgas, Blagoevgrad, Vidin and Gabrovo; training of the multidisciplinary teams of the centers in a new methodology of work; training of the magistrates from the four towns. The Youth Probation Centre is a body for the execution of measures and punishments in the community as well as for the provision of services to children with behavioral problems and their families. The expert and training team of this macro- project is a team of SAPI with a leader Ass. prof. Nelly Petrova. SAPI implemented a project Centre for Youth Probation and Social and Educational Activity in the town of Gabrovo.
In the five-modular training of the multidisciplinary team there took part voluntary representatives from all agencies (secretary of the Interdepartmental Commission for Combating the Antisocial Acts of Minors and Juveniles, inspector at the Social Assistance Directorate, experts from the Child Protection Department, pedagogical advisers to high schools).
The project had a duration of 12 months- from January 2003 to December 2003.
The project was funded by the Norwegian government and Open Society Foundation- Sofia.
