Art Therapy in the Complex for Social Services in Shoumen

Art Therapy Program was implemented between 7th and 11th of July in the Complex for Social Services to Children and Families in Shoumen.

Students form the University of Toulouse, France, majoring in Psychology, together with psychologists from the Complex worked with two groups of clients – children who have experienced violence, and mothers accommodated in the Unit "Mother and Baby", with whom specialists from the Complex work for the prevention of child abandonment in institutions.

The program aims to provide an opportunity for the children and the mothers to express their feelings and thoughts through art. The arts and crafts stir an internal dialogue with the self. Using various art activities, the participants live through and express emotions that are difficult to dress with words, or think about conflicts, and even recall some painful memories.

On July 18th in the Centre for Communal Support in the Home for Children Deprived of Parental Care "Petko R. Slaveikov" – Sofia, will be held a conclusive meeting of the teams from Shoumen, Pazardzhik and Sofia who all took part in the implementation of the Art Therapy Program.
